Today, I encourage you to pause and consider what it looks like to trust God versus what it looks like to try to do life on your own.
As you begin, take a few moments to sit quietly before God. Set aside any distractions, close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each exhalation, give him your worries and concerns and let his peace wash over you.
I encourage you to read 1 Samuel 28:1-19. What do you notice about Saul in this story? Can you relate to his responses?
Next, take some time to read the verses below and explore the questions that follow.
Colossians 1:11-14
11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
Colossians 1:21-22
21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
What do you learn about God? What do you think God may be trying to teach you about trusting him?
Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hardcopy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the gift of your Son and his sacrifice on the cross. I am prone to trying to do life on my own rather than trusting you. When I drift, Father, please help me to see it, so I can turn and come back to you. I love you and want to honor you all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Matthew 6:33
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
