Ephesians 1:5
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

When we put our faith in Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family. We become his children, and gain numerous siblings — our brothers and sisters in Christ. And while it’s not always easy, our church family is worth the risk. It offers tremendous opportunities for a rich relationship as we enjoy each other’s company, and also a chance to support each other in faith and point one another toward Christ.

Take a moment to close your eyes, and breathe deeply. Set aside your to-do list and slowly read Ephesians 1:5 above a few times, considering what each word means. Consider how you currently interact with your church family and where you might take a step toward a deeper relationship with other believers here at CedarCreek or at whichever church you call home.

Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hard copy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.

Prayer:
Lord, I praise you for loving me so much you decided in advance to adopt me into your family when I put my faith in Christ. Thank you for creating a way back to you. I love knowing it brings you joy. Help me share this precious gift with those who don’t know you and grow your family. For those who are my brothers and sisters in Christ, help me encourage them in the faith and point back to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Discussion Questions:

Icebreaker: Do you have a sibling you are close with or a friend who is as close as a brother?

Why might it feel like the church family is not worth the risk?

Read Acts 2:37-47. What do you learn about the church family of the first century? How is it similar and different to your church family today?

The Acts passage above refers to believers being devoted, amazed, and generous. Which area do you need to grow in? What is one thing you can do this week to be more devoted, amazed, or generous?

Series Theme Verse:

Proverbs 17:17 ESV
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
