Perfect Creation!

Weekend Series: Firm Foundation

DreamTeam Writer: Ned Miller

Growing up, I enjoyed building model cars, planes, boats, and army vehicles. It was a wonder for me to take the many, many pieces and put them together to create a beautiful, finished product. I would display them proudly on my bedroom shelves.

As a senior citizen, those days have long since passed, but the passion to create something awesome still lives within me. So now, one of my hobbies is model railroading. I enjoy building each segment, watching as a whole miniature world comes to life.

In model railroading, it is very important to have a firm foundation on which to lay the track and subsequently create your own little world of wonder. Without a firm foundation, the track would warp and sag, causing the trains to run poorly or derail and spoiling the whole purpose of your creation.

Often during the hours I spend creating my own little train world, I am reminded of God, the Creator of heaven and Earth. Whereas my little world has some imperfections, God’s creation is perfect and magnificent. And all he had to do was speak it into existence! He is the beginning and the end. His power is limitless, and his creation is boundless.

Have you ever really stopped to ponder exactly who God is and what he is capable of? Although we cannot see God, we are able to see Jesus as he is portrayed through Scripture.

Colossians 1:15-17
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.

17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

To know Jesus is to know God. He is the firm foundation we should build our spiritual lives on. He existed before the very beginning, came to Earth as God in human form, and set the perfect example of how to live our lives. Then he died on a Roman torture device to save us from our sinful imperfections and rose from the dead to give us the opportunity to live forever by his side in the magnificent world created just for us.

Eventually, my miniature train world will either be dismantled or crumble on its own, but the creation God made for you and me will last for eternity. Are you prepared to enjoy its magnificence? It is never too late to start building a firm foundation.

Questions:
Have you ever truly stopped to marvel at what God has created for you?

Is your foundation built solidly on Jesus, or is there some warping and sagging that could get you off track?

Next Steps:
Take time to appreciate the world we have to enjoy and, more importantly, anticipate the world we are invited to dwell in forever.

If you feel there are weaknesses in your spiritual foundation, it is not too late to solidify it. Focus on truly devoting your life to Jesus and the example he set for you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I marvel at your magnificence. I can’t begin to fathom all of your creation, but I know since it is your world built for me, it must be beautiful and perfect. Lord, while I am enjoying your earthly world, help me to not get caught up in earthly ways but stay focused on Jesus. Help me build the type of foundation that will support my spiritual life until the day I have the luxury of entering your beautiful heavenly world for eternity. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Colossians 1:23
But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.
