Hello everyone,
Quick update as we head into Easter Weekend at the creek. These last couple of months have been full steam ahead. My internship experience so far has been full of learning, and growth both spiritually & intellectually. One of the books we read as a class called Amplified Leadership has been really impactful, especially regarding the work we do in production. The teachings were super insightful. One of my biggest takeaways from Amplified Leadership was, “you shouldn’t make changes, just to change things” or in other words, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Also, another point that led out of that statement was, “when you do make a change, if nobody says anything, it probably didn’t need to be changed in the first place”. This can be tough to navigate in production as we are always coming up with new creative ideas as well as making adjustments on the fly to help create a distraction-free environment for others to connect to Christ. This reminds me, most recently I completed a Working Genius assessment. There are 6 types of Working Geniuses (Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity) that help individuals and teams identify in what aspects of the work lifecycle they find joy and fulfillment, and in what others they find frustrations. My top 2 Working Genius that give me energy and fulfillment in work are Wonder - identifying the need to improve or change, involving the ability to ponder and speculate, questioning the state of things, and asking questions that often provoke answers and action. Secondly, Discernment – assessing the merit and workability of the idea or solution. It is related to instinct, intuition, and uncanny judgment having the ability to assess an idea or situation, even without a lot of data or expertise. Knowing my working genius gives me, as well as others, the ability to see where I thrive in the working environment. This has been extremely helpful in the development of my position under Sean McGee – Perrysburg’s Director of Production.
Recently, the other interns and I took a trip to Nashville to check out Cross Point Church. This was a great bonding experience we had, especially as a team. It’s not often we all have time carved out in our busy lives to connect as we did. Not only was this a great chance to connect with each other, but this was also a chance to see how another church operates. We had the opportunity to network with our counterparts, pray for one another, and experience life together. Nashville was extremely eye-opening, especially seeing the culture shift compared to the culture we have in Perrysburg. Nashville definitely has a special place in my heart but overall, I came out of this experience grateful for where I am and what we do here at CedarCreek. As often as churches feed off one another, Cedar Creek is truly one of a kind.
So as my internship experience comes to a close, there are still many great things to come. Recent work developments with Sean has me stepping into leading our team more. Whether that be leading our team huddles, producing our weekly service, or other administrative duties such as scheduling our team on a monthly basis and handling all email communications. Such developments have called for me to step away from leading and growing our Oregon campus production team. Nonetheless, these recent development is allowing me to better utilizes my gifts and abilities.
Stay tuned, this final leg as an Intern has so much more to come including our FILO (First In Last Out) conference in Chicago.
Thank you all for your support on this journey,
God bless!
