Bible in a Year Reading Plan: Numbers 29-32 | 2 Corinthians 9
Time is a gift that I am so thankful for. With having my grandson and his siblings here this summer, I’ve prayed, “God, help me be the grandmother they need!” This is especially true when they struggle to get along with one another and move faster than I can keep up with. I have also enjoyed entertaining my granddaughter’s dog occasionally while she’s at work. And more recently, I’ve been blessed to sit with my new great-granddaughter and provide a meal for her mom and dad.
We find so many blessings in our lives when we look for them.
Generosity begins with recognizing all that God has given us. Early church members didn’t give to make a difference or earn God’s favor; they gave because their hearts were transformed by God’s generosity toward them. They lived with open hands.
Acts 4:32-35
All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.
This radical generosity in the early church makes me think about the ways generosity shows up in my own life. As I reflect on these moments, whether it's caring for grandchildren, helping with a family pet, or supporting new parents, I'm reminded that grand gestures aren't a measure of generosity. Rather, generosity is measured by our willingness to share what we have in everyday life. Sometimes, it's as simple as giving our time, a listening ear, or a warm meal.
The early Christ followers in Acts lived with open hands, trusting that God would provide for their needs as they cared for one another. Their unity and generosity made a deep impact, not only on their community, but on all who witnessed it.
When God created his church, he was building a community of believers with a generosity mindset. How you give reveals what you trust.
May we, too, embrace a spirit of gratitude and generosity. Let's look for opportunities to bless others with what God has given us, knowing that even small acts of kindness reflect his love.

Prayer:
Holy and sovereign God, thank you for giving your all that I may know you better. Yours is a gift I will never be able to equal. Please help me to live in such a way that honors the sacrifice that you so willingly gave. All that I have, all that I am, is a gift coming down from the Kingdom of Heaven, and I am so blessed by knowing the giver. Thank you, Father, for your generosity. Amen.
