New Testament Reading Plan: Mark 15
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21
19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at prophecies, 21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.
Discernment isn't just for pastors, theologians, or the "super spiritual." It's for every believer because we are all surrounded by competing voices. Some sound convincing, some even sound godly, but not all lead us toward the truth.
Paul's words to the Thessalonians are both a warning and an encouragement. Don't silence the Spirit or dismiss the ways God may be speaking. But don't accept everything at face value, either.
Test it, compare it to Scripture, and ask the Spirit for wisdom. When you find what's good, hold on like your life depends on it!
Deceptive voices and spiritual lies can quietly steal our focus and rob us of joy. The remedy is to let the Holy Spirit lead. When we follow his guidance, he not only directs us into truth but also builds in us a deep trust and stability while strengthening us to live with unshakeable joy.
Absolute joy isn't found in everything that sounds good. It's found in what is truly good…because it comes from God.
Questions:
What’s one practical step you can take to “hold on to what is good” and lean more fully on the Holy Spirit’s guidance?
Next Steps:
Before you accept a teaching, a trend, or even your own feelings as truth, pause. Pray, “Holy Spirit, help me see this through your eyes.” Then, if it aligns with God’s Word and draws you closer to him, grab hold and don’t let go.
Prayer: 21 Days of Prayer - Day 19
Thank you, God, for blessing us with your love to share with the world. Please, give us the strength to step out in faith when we see a need. Give us the courage to reveal your truth, so that others can receive the knowledge of your heart for them, and then join you in the work you are doing. Help us reach those around us through our everyday actions and grant us the confidence to live by faith. Amen
Series Theme Verse:
Psalm 16:11
You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.
