Weekend Series: Stronger Than Stress

DreamTeam Writer: Kelly Pagel

Sunday, September 22, 2024

Hurry is something most of us are familiar with. Yet it can cause us to miss the most meaningful parts of our life, or even worse, incite conflict.

On the other hand, rest can help prevent us from wrecking our relationships, and God knew we needed it. He created the Sabbath to meet the needs of the people, not the other way around (Mark 2:27). It is a gift, a grace, a practice, and a pace.

Today, spend time reflecting on the following questions and consider how you can implement the Sabbath and step into the care and rest God has for you.

Discussion Questions:

  • Icebreaker: How would you describe the pace of your life?
  • How is hurry incompatible with love?
  • Read Matthew 11:28-30. What do you learn about Jesus? How are you encouraged?
  • Which aspect of Sabbath that Barb mentioned appeals to you the most—gift, grace, practice, or pace?
  • What would it look like to begin a Sabbath practice? What is one thing you can do to stop living in constant motion?

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the gift of the Sabbath. Today, and throughout the week, help me to think about this practice you made as a grace to me. Give me insight on how to practice the Sabbath and walk at a pace of peace. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:
Ephesians 3:16-17
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
