Do you have a group of friends where you feel like you belong? You know, the ones you call “your people,” the ones who get you.
This is something we all long for, as we were made for community. Yet, in today’s world this is a struggle for many. According to the Surgeon General’s Report of 2023, loneliness is an epidemic, and its impact on our health is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Not only do close friends help us combat loneliness, but God also uses these friendships to grow us into the people he is calling us to be. Plus, they provide great opportunities to share God with others. We see Jesus cultivate a sense of belonging with both large groups of people and small intimate friend groups. We need this as well. And loving, caring friendships begin when we understand how much God loves and cares for us.
Today, take a few moments to sit quietly. Set aside all distractions, close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each exhale, give God your worries and concerns. Allow his peace to wash over you, and take time to contemplate God’s great love for you.
Next, read through 1 John 4:9-11 and consider the quality of your friendships. Are your friends fueling or fighting your progress?
Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or analog. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.
21 Days of Prayer - Day 14 - Worship (John 4:23)
Today’s Prayer Focus: To Worship Him
Prayer:
Dear Father, I worship you with all my heart and soul. I want to sing your praises from early in the morning, when the sun rises, until late at night, when the day has passed. I am so grateful to be allowed to be your child as your love fills my heart again today. Amen.
Series Theme Verse:
2 Peter 1:3
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
