Weekend Series: Power to Change

DreamTeam Writer: Kelly Pagel

Sunday, January 7, 2024

Do you set New Year’s resolutions? Many do! Unfortunately, many also drop their plans to change within a few short weeks. It doesn’t have to be this way. We possess the power to change, but it must be more than simple behavior modification.

Begin by taking a few moments to sit quietly. Set aside all distractions, close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each exhalation, give God your worries and concerns. Allow his peace to wash over you. Next, take time to consider how God wants to transform you this year. Where is he asking you to take a step in your spiritual transformation?

Next, take some time to slowly read through 2 Peter 1:3. What do you learn in this verse? How does it encourage you?

Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hardcopy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for giving me everything I need to grow in my relationship with you. Help me remember that, little by little, you are transforming me into your image each day. Rather than trying to do things myself, help me step into the partnership you offer, participating in your good plan. I ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Discussion Questions:

Icebreaker: Did you make a New Year’s resolution this year? If so, what is your goal? If not, why?

Why do you think people lose momentum for their resolutions so quickly?

Read 2 Peter 1:3. What do you learn from it? How does this verse encourage you, as it relates to change?

Which of the four change mindsets discussed in the message most often reflects your own?

What is one way God is inviting you to engage with him in 2024? What is one step you can take toward spiritual transformation?

Series Theme Verse:

2 Peter 1:3
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
