Planting your Wildflower Seeds: Scatter. Press. Water. Bloom!

1. Choose a sunny spot with good soil drainage.

2. Scatter seeds and press lightly into the soil to protect from wind and birds.

3. Water daily until germination occurs, then reduce and water as necessary.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalms 127:3

Your kids are on their own adventure with Jesus. As parents, we get to plant seeds of faith – day by day, year by year – and trust God to do the growing.

Take a moment to explore the “seeds” below and prayerfully consider one or two you want to plant this spring. As new life begins to bloom all around us, what new habits in your home could bring life to your child’s heart and mind?

Mental & Emotional Wellbeing

Pray for and with your child. Praying before school, at mealtimes, at bedtime - anytime - shows our kids what it looks like to have a relationship with Jesus.

  • Consider writing each of your children’s names on an index card. Throughout the year, write down specific things you are praying for and how they are answered.
  • Ask your child: What do you want to thank God for? What do you need God to help you with?
  • Here is a beautiful song you can sing as a prayer over your family: The Blessing.

Financial Wisdom

Kids are not too young to learn about being good stewards of the resources God entrusts to us. From earning an allowance, to making smart decisions with birthday money, we can teach our kids how to prioritize giving, saving and wise spending. Physical Health

We all want our kids to be healthy. In the business of life, sometimes the simple things like getting outside, moving our bodies, and eating fresh nutritious food can get overlooked. Maybe it’s time for a reset. Reflect on the following questions to see if there is a healthy next step your family can take.

  •  Are we “eating out” more than we are “eating in?” Weekly meal prep can help with the late afternoon decision fatigue and set your family up with healthy food choices for the week.
  • How many hours do my kids spend outside? How can we foster regular family walks or a weekly afternoon at the park with friends?

Relational Health

Sometimes families are disconnected because we are overscheduled, overstimulated, and we show up overwhelmed.

"Corrie ten Boom once said that if the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy. There’s truth in that. Both sin and busyness have the exact same effect—they cut off your connection to God, to other people, and even to your own soul." - John Mark Comer

Our good God designed a weekly rhythm with an intentional day of rest. Are you receiving that gift? Are you enjoying a day of rest as a family? Consider reading "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" and ask God to show you how to create more healthy and sustainable rhythms for yourself and your family.

Spiritual Growth

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Our children learn about God by watching our relationship with him. Get caught reading your Bible! And just as important, create a rhythm of reading the Bible together as a family. Bedtime is a great place to start.

A Heart to Help

We all want our children to be kind and generous. One of the best ways for them to experience that "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35 NIV) is by encouraging them to roll up their sleeves and serve someone else. If you’re looking for ways your family can make a difference together, connect with us every Second Saturday of the month as we demonstrate God’s love in tangible ways by serving others. Each CedarCreek campus hosts at least one Second Saturday Serve project per month, and anyone is welcome to participate.

Spiritual Community

Studies show that by age 12 a majority of Americans make a personal decision about whether to believe in Jesus' death and resurrection. That is a powerful metric! Making church attendance a weekly priority for your family is one of the best ways to introduce your child to Jesus and lead them on the life-changing adventure with Him.

Questions to consider:

  • Does our schedule reflect what's most important to us?
  • Do we need to say "no" to something so we can say "yes" to something better?
  • Is our family schedule helping our children Know God more?

May God’s favor be upon your family and the seeds of faith you are planting in His name!
