Over the past week, we’ve been learning about the struggle we have between our two natures. It is so easy to resort to trusting in ourselves, but in the long run, that doesn’t turn out well. In contrast, when we instead trust in the Holy Spirit, we will experience a more fruitful life.
Today, I invite you to carve out a few quiet moments to reread the verses that really spoke to you throughout the week. Some possibilities may include Genesis 1:2, Romans 15:13, and Galatians 5:16-25. Then look back on the notes you captured Sunday and reflect on the actions you took this week. Consider how you grew closer to God and his Holy Spirit.
You may consider making additional notes as you explore the following questions:
What did you learn about yourself this week? What did you learn about the Holy Spirit?
What is one thing that went well? What was challenging or difficult?
How can you continue to place your trust in God’s Holy Spirit rather than in yourself or the things around you?
Prayer:
Lord, you loved me so much you sent your Son to die for me and gifted me with your Holy Spirit. My tendency is to trust myself and the things of this world to produce what can only come from trusting in and walking with the Holy Spirit. Help me continue to grow closer to you so that your love, joy, and peace can shine through me and I can be a light to those who don’t know you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Series Theme Verse:
John 14:26
“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
