Weekend Series: Unfazed

DreamTeam Writer: Kelly Pagel

Sunday, October 1, 2023

Today, I encourage you to pause and consider how God is inviting you to live out the weekend message in the coming days.

To begin, take a few moments to sit quietly before God. Set aside any distractions, close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each exhalation, give him your worries and concerns and let his peace wash over you.

Next, take some time to read the verses below and explore the questions that follow. You can do this on your own or with others.

John 4:34-35

34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. 35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.”

1 Peter 2:9

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

What do you learn about Jesus’ purpose and your own?

What do you think God may be trying to teach you about your identity through these verses?

Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hardcopy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.

Prayer:

Lord, I praise you for loving me and choosing me to be one of your own. Help me live out the purpose you have for me by remembering my identity, and using my gifts to serve in the assignment you have for me right now. Let me be a light for you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Series Theme Verse:

John 14:26

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

Discussion Questions:

Icebreaker: Describe a time when you have been somewhere and wondered, "What am I doing here?"

What are some areas people often mistake for purpose?

Read John 4:34-35. What do you learn about Jesus and purpose in these verses?

What defines your identity? How has God’s Spirit gifted and equipped you to serve others?

What assignment has God given you to live out your purpose right now? What is one thing you can do to make the most of every opportunity he has put before you (Ephesians 5:16-17)?
