Today, I encourage you to pause and consider this idea of God being our source of joy. So many things can be a rival for our attention, especially during the holidays.
Begin by taking a few moments to sit quietly. Set aside all distractions, close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each exhalation, give God your worries and concerns and allow his peace wash over you.
Next, take some time to slowly read through John 15:11 and Psalm 37:4. Savor the words and consider the love God has for you and the people of this world.
What do you learn about God and his desires for us? Where should we direct our focus?
Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hardcopy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.
Prayer:
Lord, so often I get caught up in all the things of this world, distracting myself and thinking they will bring me the joy I so desperately want. But only you can offer the true joy I am seeking. Thank you for this incredible gift. Help me focus my eyes on you, Father. Help me connect and grow closer to you this Christmas season as I anticipate the celebration of your Son’s birth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
