Happy Easter! Christ is risen. Hallelujah!

Today, we are celebrating that Jesus is alive. He did exactly as he said he would, fulfilling the prophecies told about him.

While it is amazing, sometimes we still may find ourselves doubting. Doubt can take a variety of forms from intellectual doubting to circumstantial doubt, or even self-doubt.

And then you may wrestle with, “Is it okay to doubt?”

Jesus wants us to be honest with him and share our burdens with him. Whenever you are feeling sadness, anger, and, yes, even doubt—take it before God.

John 14:1
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

Jesus wants to meet you wherever you are and, in the process, draw you closer to him. As you work through the questions you have, ask God to help you know him more.

Today, take time to ask God where you need to trust him. Invite him to open your eyes to what he wants to teach you this week as we learn about Thomas and how Jesus met and encouraged him in his doubt. Set aside any distractions. Close your eyes, and take a few slow, deep breaths. Ask the Lord to help you identify where you may doubt God, and then ask him to deepen your faith.

Finally, consider recording your responses in a journal, whether digital or hard copy. It's a great way to be able to look back on the adventure God has you on.

Prayer:
Father, I praise you for Jesus and his glorious resurrection that allows me to approach your throne. On my own, I am not worthy, but through Christ, you made a way. And yet, sometimes, I still wonder and, yes, even doubt your goodness. Forgive me! Today, Lord, open my eyes to where I need to trust you and help me to continue to “show up” and be faithful in the areas you have called me to. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Discussion Questions:

  • Icebreaker: What has been the most important moment of your life?
  • What are some of the doubts people may have around Jesus?
  • Read John 20:19-29. In what ways can you relate to Thomas? What do you learn about Jesus?
  • Where are you having doubts? How are you encouraged by Thomas’ story above?
  • Share two ways you can keep "showing up." Which one of these will you do this week?
